Dagmar Sofia Swanstrom Wick, 88, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Friday, October 31, the birthday of her beloved late husband, Harold. Dagmar was born in Enkoping, Sweden on February 6, 1915. She arrived in this country in 1923 with her parents, Carl and Hildur Swanstrom, and her three brothers, Joseph, Roy and Alfred. Following a year in Seattle, her parents, Salvation Army officers, moved with their family to Tacoma. After attending Bryant and Lincoln Elementary Schools, then McCarver and Jason Lee Junior High Schools, Dagmar began working full time at age fifteen as a babysitter and housemaid for several prominent Tacoma families. On September 15, 1934 she married Harold Wick in her parent’s home on South Ainsworth Street. After living in homes on South Ainsworth, South 14th Street and South Hosmer, Dagmar and Harold designed and built their dream home on North 9th Street, where they resided for over fifty years. “Dagmar’s Cozy Kitchen” was always open on Saturday mornings for her family and friends who frequently stopped by to enjoy Swedish pancakes, a good cup of coffee, and always lots of love. Given the great pride she had in her home, Dagmar was so pleased when a grandchild and her family purchased and moved into the longtime family residence just two weeks prior to her passing. Dagmar’s love for her family and friends was chronicled for nearly 70 years in her diaries, in her many photo albums, and in her meticulously kept scrapbooks. Some of her special joys included traveling with her husband and family, gardening, crocheting, playing Upwords and Scrabble, writing, bookkeeping, and entertaining. Additionally, while Mr. Wick operated Wick Construction Company, Dagmar coordinated the interior decorating of many of her husband’s homes. In earlier years Dagmar was a frequent soloist at Life Center Assembly of God, where she and her husband were active members for over 60 years. For the past year, Dagmar resided at the Weatherly Inn/Assisted Living Residence, where she formed a special bond with the very caring and professional staff. Dagmar’s strong Christian faith was reflected in all that she said and did. Her warm smile, kind words, and consistently gracious demeanor were truly an inspiration to all. The family expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Retailleau and to the staffs of the Weatherly Inn and Multicare Hospice of Tacoma for their compassion and loving care. Dagmar was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, to whom she was married for 67 years; her son, Roy; two grandchildren, Suzanne Frederick and Angie Gosselin; and her three brothers. She is survived by her children Ron (Marilyn) Wick, Clarine (Reuben) Kvamme, Janet (Gary) Gosselin, Elaine (Chuck) Holme, Vicky (Jeff) Stone, Wes (Judy) Wick and Sheryl (Dan) Jorgensen, and daughter-in-law Barbara Wick. Her surviving grandchildren are Greg Wick, Steve (Tracy) Wick, Kevin (Heidi) Wick, Brian (Missy) Wick, Lori (Kent) Salisbury, Dave (Sandy) Kvamme, Kathi (Ken) Wiebe, Kari (Rick) Caliguri, Brittany Gosselin; Erik, Jana and Angela Holme, Christine (Brett) Turner; Brannon, Garrett and Monica Stone; Jonathan, Heather, Andrew and Jeremy Wick; and Matthew, Jacob and Krista Jorgensen. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Emma, Claire, Maddie, Carlie, Will, Nicole and Brianna Wick; James, Katie, Amanda, Megan and Jenelle Salisbury; Hayden, Bailey and Lacey Kvamme; Veronica and Clayton Wiebe; Courtney, Brandon, Chelsea and Austin Starr; Kiley and Miranda Caliguri; and Lauren and Anna Turner. A family grave side service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park. The memorial service will be held at Life Center Assembly of God, South 17th & Union Ave., on Friday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by Lynn Funeral Home.
